Mitigating damage. Rewards.

General Notes

Since a bit of a rejuvenation a few days back, had my first stumble. Thankfully, only a minor one. Finished my food and was still craving something, and eventually got a full extra dinner from Taco Bell delivery.

Some things to help mitigate that going forward:
  • When I eat a smaller meal at home, supplement it with soup so it feels more filling.
  • When I do have a craving, look for something that's not going to both blow my calorie count and will kill time. A good example of this is something like a frappuccino at Starbucks, where it's probably in the 250-300 calorie range and doesn't bring any temptation to "binge" it the way a big delivery order will.
Moving on.

Daily Article Notes

Relevant notes from my daily set of Noom articles.
  • Article is about rewards. Again, I feel like I'm in a really good place with having Subnautica as a reward here. It's not necessarily a reward for losing weight, since I can't always control that, but it IS a reward for showing up and trying each day. It commits me to that day's effort.
  • Next is a good general rule to find less calorically-dense foods (especially in restaurants) when you can't always know the calories.
    • Worst: e.g. deep-fried, pan-fried
    • Okay: e.g. grilled, roasted, sauteed, stir-fried
    • Best: e.g. steamed, baked, stewed
  • Also interesting: salads aren't always lowest caloric-density. A salad with a heavy creamy dressing and cheese will be worse than, say, chicken skewers or broth-based vegetable soups.
